The annual Google Zeitgeist is looked forward to by consumers and businesses around the world. This list is a compilation of the world’s fastest growing search terms and gives dramatic information about what consumers searched for the most in the previous year. However, it should be understood that the Zeitgeist does not list the most POPULAR searches, but rather those that grew the fastest in consumer numbers over the course of a year.
The list starts out rather predictably, with political figure Sarah Palin in the top spot and the second spot being taken by the Beijing 2008 Olympics. However, the number three slot was something of a shocker to many in the world. The term “Facebook login” was the third fastest growing search term in popularity, beating out terms such as Barack Obama, and Heath Ledger (after the star’s tragic death).
The growth of this search term was phenomenal and the 2009 Zeitgeist is looked forward to, in order to judge just how much more popular the social networking website has become. Will it beat out other super hot topics like health care reform, or the ongoing Afghan war? Only time will tell!
